DVD disc or better known as Digital Versatile Disc or Digital Video Disc is actually an optical disc storage media format, which was founded in 1995. Its main uses or it finds it best application in storing or keeping video and data storage. DVD discs are of the same dimensions as compact discs or (CDs), but are capable of storing more than six times as much data. There are variations often in the name of DVD discs because of its way or process of keeping data. There are various types of DVD discs like DVD-ROM or read only memory, which has data that can only be read and not written.
There is DVD-R and DVD+R (recordable) that have the capability to record data only once, and then function as a DVD-ROM, DVD-RW (re-writable), DVD+RW, and DVD-RAM (random access memory). This DVD RAM has the capacity or capability to both record and erases data for multiple times. DVD recordable discs are now also used for consumer audio and video recording. Dual-layer recording in DVD disc allows DVD-R and DVD+R discs to store significantly more data that is up to 8.54 gigabytes per disc, compared with 4.7 gigabytes for single-layer DVD discs.
A dual-layer DVD disc is usually differs from its usual DVD counterpart by incorporating a second physical layer within the disc itself. In fact the new technology and the improvised method have developed the DVD disc a lot and users are currently using it to fulfill their multiple needs or requirements.
