The non-standard computer keyboards

There are five types of computer keyboards, such as Chorded, Virtual, Touchscreens, Foldable and Laser or Infrared.

Chorded keyboards: Chorded keyboards contain a key set, which allows the user to enter characters or commands by pressing several keys together, such as playing a chord on a piano. The large number of combinations allows text or commands to be entered with one hand, while leaving the other hand free to do something else.

Virtual keyboard: Virtual keyboard, like the I-Tech Virtual Laser Keyboard, projects an image of a full-size keyboard onto a surface. There is also a virtual keyboard, or the On-Screen Keyboard, for the use on Windows. The On-Screen keyboard is an image of a standard keyboard which the user generally controls by using a mouse to get the desired letter or symbol.

Touchscreen keyboards: Touchscreen keyboards such as with the iPhone and the OLPC laptop, can also be used as a keyboard.

Foldable keyboards: Foldable keyboards or flexible keyboards are made of soft plastic or silicone which can be rolled or folded. These keyboards conform to uneven surfaces, and they are more resistant to liquids than the standard keyboards. These keyboards also can also be connected to portable devices and smart-phones.

Laser or Infrared keyboard: Some devices project a keyboard layout onto any flat surface using a laser and this is a laser keyboards. These computer keyboards detect key presses via infrared, and they can artificially produce the tapping or clicking sound of a physical keyboard through their software.
